Overview:
I noticed our alumni network from the Davis Center (Dayton’s student-run investment fund) was totally fragmented and the only way for current students to connect with alumni was via LinkedIn, so I built the system to bring them together. I launched a Slack workspace for ~500 alumni and organized it into useful, active channels for tips, jobs, recruiting, shoutouts, coffee chats, and more.
Key Elements:
- Curated alumni list and set up channel taxonomy
- Built the initial engagement system (newsletters, intros, weekly & monthly updates, etc.)
- Activated mentor/mentee connections and job sharing organically
Why It Matters:
This showed me how to architect communities — and that strong networks don’t happen by accident.
